Melody: Traditional Ndebele miners' work song — slow building call-and-response
Why It Matters
Originally sung by Ndebele migrant miners travelling by steam train to gold and diamond mines. "Sho sho" is onomatopoeia for the steam train sound. Featured in the 2010 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony. Transcends football — sung at rugby and cricket too.
