Why It Matters
"Al-Akhdar" (The Green) is Saudi Arabia's football nickname, named after the green in their national flag and kits. The sword and palm tree from their flag appear in supporter chants — the palm symbolizes prosperity and the sword justice. After the 2-1 upset of Argentina at Qatar 2022, the Saudi government declared a national holiday.
