Why It Matters
"Les Grenadiers" (The Grenadiers) honors Haiti's Haitian Revolution soldiers — the only enslaved people in history to successfully overthrow colonial rule (1804). Haiti was the first Black republic in the world. When Haitians sing for their football team, they carry 220 years of independence and resilience in every note.
